Is Laneige Cruelty Free: Does Laneige Test on Animals?

If you’re a fan of Laneige cosmetics, you may be wondering, “is Laneige cruelty-free?”  Laneige, a South Korean company, got its start in Asia in 1994.  After gaining popularity in Asia, Laneige expanded to Europe, and then to the United States.  But, the big question remains:  Does Laneige test on animals?  We’ll share the answer to this question and more below; keep reading!

Does Laneige test on animals?

Yes, unfortunately, Laneige does test on animals.  They sell products on mainland China, and China requires that companies allow their products to be tested on animals.

Their website does state that they have eliminated unnecessary animal testing out of respect to living creatures.  However, they also add that the exception to their policy applies if animal testing is “required or bound by local  governments or laws,” as is the case in China and some other countries where Laneige is sold.

Laneige could decide to pull their products from China and any other countries that require animal testing.  However, they have not yet made the decision to put ethics above making money from sales in these countries.

Is Laneige on PETA’s cruelty free list?

No, Laneige is not on PETA’s cruelty-free list.  PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is an animal rights organization that seeks to protect animals and share information with consumers about animal-friendly companies.

The only companies that are added to PETA’s cruelty-free list are companies that do not test any of their products on animals.  Since Laneige still sells its products in China and other countries that require makeup products to be tested on animals, it does not make the cruelty-free list from PETA.

If Laneige opted to stop selling their products in China or other countries that allow or require animal testing, they could apply to be added to PETA’s cruelty-free list.  This would require the company to take a firm stand against animal testing and choose protecting animals over increasing their products by continuing to sell them in China.

Is Laneige vegan?

Laneige’s makeup and skincare line does not carry any vegan-certification from PETA or Leaping bunny.  This means that it is likely that their products are not vegan friendly.  Many ingredients commonly used for making cosmetics contain some animal-derived ingredients.  Since Laneige does not carry a vegan-friendly label, it is likely that at least some of these products/animal-derived ingredients are found in their makeup and skincare line.  Some ingredients that may contain animal-sourced components include:

Is Laneige a clean brand?

Many Laneige products may be considered ‘clean,’ but you’ll want to check the ingredients list for each product before making a purchase.  Remember that clean beauty refers to products that are non-toxic and safe to use.  Since the FDA doesn’t regulate makeup products, it can be challenging to assess just what is in each makeup item.  Some ingredients you’ll want to avoid when looking for clean makeup include:

Is Laneige chemical free?

Is Laneige paraben-free?

Yes, Laneige products are paraben-free.  Parabens are used as a preservative in some makeup and skincare products.  They can prevent mold or other bacteria from growing on the makeup, which results in a longer shelf-life.  Parabens have been a common addition to makeup items since the 1920s.  However, as more research has been conducted and scientists have learned more, it has become clear that there are a number of reasons to avoid parabens.

Choosing paraben-free makeup and skin care products is important because parabens can have a negative impact on the function of our hormones.  They have been linked to a possible increased risk for cancer and reproductive issues.

Is Laneige good?
